Harmony fat quarter quilt featuring Farmhouse Flannels II from Carried Away Quilting

Our nephew Adam will graduate from high school this May, and I’ve completed his flannel quilt with a few months to spare.  Last fall I asked Adam if he had any special requests for his graduation quilt, or if he would trust me to select the pattern and colors. He texted back, “I trust you Aunt Taunja. Go for it!”  He’s such a great kid. I hope he loves his quilt!

This past year I’ve made three quilts featuring the Farmhouse Flannels II collection by Primitive Gatherings for Moda: one for my husband, one for my son ...

Finally . . . a flannel quilt for Brad from Carried Away Quilting

Last spring, I made a college graduation quilt for Haley’s boyfriend. When I showed it to my husband, he asked, “Is that for me?” He knew darn well that it was for Cameron, but I felt a twinge of guilt. I realized I hadn’t made a quilt just for Brad in several years. I ...

New pattern: Hometime from Carried Away Quilting

Earlier this spring I shared a graduation quilt I made using the new Farmhouse Flannels II collection by Primitive Gatherings for Moda. The colors in this collection are warm, earthy and masculine, and the prints include an assortment of traditional plaid, stripe and houndstooth. It’s the perfect collection for a striking guy quilt! When my son saw the quilt I had made, he piped up and said he needed a new quilt too . . . and out of the same fabric! That is music to a quilting mom’s ears, isn’t it? I was so inspired by Luke’s request ...

A flannel quilt for the graduate! from Carried Away Quilting

I love making graduation quilts. There is so much promise, hope and excitement in watching a young person graduate and take their next steps in life. I think it energizes those of us who have to brush off the cobwebs to remember our own graduations. It reminds us of the possibilities of new beginnings, and how thrilled and scared we were in those moments. Making a quilt for a graduate is our way of sending love and encouragement with the young person embarking on that new journey.

We have two special graduates to celebrate this year . . . our daughter’s boyfriend ...
